LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech women's basketball is heading out on the road once again for the second consecutive road game to start the 2012-13 season as it takes on New Mexico at 8 p.m. CT in Albuquerque, N.M.
Thursday's game will be Tech's final true road trip to an opponents' court until Big 12 Conference play begins on Jan. 2 at Oklahoma State. The Lady Raiders will play two games in December in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic.
Tech (1-0) won its first game at Arizona State on Sunday, 61-49, thanks in part to Casey Morris' 15 points to lead four players in double figures.
Thursday's game marks the first time Tech will start the season with consecutive road games since 2001-02. The Lady Raiders played four regular season games away from United Spirit Arena to start that year - at Duke, at Oregon State, at Oregon and at New Mexico.
The bout with New Mexico (1-0) has become an annual game for the past five seasons with Tech taking three of the last four while holding a 13-2 advantage overall in the series.
The Lady Raiders are 4-2 at University Arena - known mostly by its name, "The Pit."
Tech won its last matchup there in 2010 when it opened the season with an 80-53 win and ended the year with a bid to the NCAA Tournament - something it would like to repeat this season.
It will be somewhat of a homecoming for sophomore guard Amber Battle, who starred at Cibola High School in Albuquerque from 2007-11, where she was District Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and New Mexico Player of the Year as a senior.
