LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Brittany Talley limited DePaul to just three hits and the Texas Tech bats provided just enough offense for the Red Raiders to take a 2-1 victory Sunday morning at Stephanie Lynn Craig Park.
The win was Tech's (6-4) fifth-straight and came against a solid DePaul (6-4) squad that had defeated both No. 24 LSU and BYU the day before.
It all started in the circle. After early struggles, Talley sat down the final nine batters, giving the Tech bats plenty of opportunity to break a 1-1 tie that stood since the second inning.
Sandy James did just that in the fifth, lining a hard ball just past short that bounced into center field, giving Ashley Hamada plenty of time to score from second.
Adriana Perez had previously given Tech its first run of the game with a solo home run in the second, her second of the year and second in as many games. Perez also added a double in the fourth to finish 2-for-3 at the plate, her second-straight multiple-hit game.
DePaul took the early lead when Bree Brown hit an RBI single up the middle that allowed Katelyn Braget enough time to scamper home from second.
It would be DePaul's only run, though, as Talley kept the Blue Demons off the board from there, escaping jams in the middle innings in the process. DePaul finished with six runners left on base.
The win was Talley's (1-1) first of the season as she had already earned a no-decision this weekend in Tech's victory over Ohio State on Friday. She finished with four strikeouts, two walks, and two hit batters.
Kirsten Verdun (1-1) took the loss for DePaul in a complete game effort. The southpaw gave up seven hits over six innings while striking out two.
The Red Raiders close the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic against Utah State which is currently underway in Las Vegas.
