2012 Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters
March 8, 2012
The No. 42 Texas Tech Men's Golf team returns to the links this weekend and will be in search of its third consecutive top five finish as the Red Raiders open play tomorrow at the 2012 Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters.
Texas Tech enters the three-round tournament having finished second at the Wyoming Desert Invitational and first at the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational, in the last month. Tech's success in the last two tournaments propelled the Red Raiders into the Top 50 of the Golfweek Magazine NCAA team rankings for the first time this season as they stand at No. 42.
The Red Raiders will face a strong tournament field in Las Vegas as Tech will tee off against eight teams ranked in the national top 15, 11 teams in the top 25 and 12 in the top 50. No. 1 Texas leads the tournament field followed by No. 3 Alabama, No. 4 USC and No. 5 UCLA.
Clement Sordet, a finalist for Big 12 Player of the Month honors in February, leads the Red Raiders with a 71.7 stroke average while Finley Ewing IV is second at 73.2.
The three-round tournament will be played over the course of three days at the Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev. Southern Highlands is a par 72 course that covers 7,510 yards. Live stats will be available each day on golfstat.com.
