LUBBOCK, Texas - Kim Kaufman highlighted a busy day for the Texas Tech women's golf program Tuesday as four Lady Raiders were involved in several of the top amateur tournaments in the United States and Canada.
In her second amateur appearance this summer, Kaufman opened the Royale Cup Canadian Amateur Championship with a 1-over 73 that left her tied for seventh after one day of the 72-hole tournament. The card put the incoming senior in solid position entering Wednesday's second round where the field will be cut to 70 players immediately following.
She is joined north of the border by teammate Gabby Dominguez, who fired a 5-over card at the Lethbridge Golf Course in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Dominguez finished the day tied for 33rd, three strokes up on the projected cut line.
Beverly Mendoza, meanwhile, battled through two rounds of qualifying Monday and Tuesday in order to advance to the match play portion of the Women's Trans Amateur Championship being held at The Members Club of Woodcreek in Elgin, S.C.
She combined to shoot 12-over during the two qualifying rounds with 77 and 79 cards that left her tied for 41st overall. The Philippines native will face Taylor Camany at 10:38 a.m. CT Wednesday in the final match to tee off the round of 64 round.
Tech's final golfer on the links Tuesday was Hannah Arnold who was playing in the Texas State Amateur Open being held in McKinney. She shot a 3-over 75 in the one round of qualifying to advance to match player where she fell to Mina Hardin, 3-and-1, in the round of 32.
Dominguez and Kaufman will both be in the morning wave during Tuesday's second round in Canada. Dominguez is set to tee off at 9:36 a.m. CT with Kaufman following a few groups late at 9:47 a.m.
