LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head soccer coach Tom Stone announced today a five-match spring schedule featuring a pair of home games at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
The Red Raiders, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2012, will open the 2013 spring slate at home Friday hosting West Texas A&M. First kick for the spring opener is set for 5:30 p.m. at the John Walker Soccer Complex. Tech will play its second match of the weekend Saturday hosting the Austin Nationals Saturday at 1 p.m.
"We're extremely excited for what this portion of our spring training has to offer," Stone said. "It will give several of our players and many of our freshmen a chance to gain valuable minutes against some great competition. Our players have made tremendous strides over the offseason and it will be great to see the byproduct of that on the field this spring."
Texas Tech's spring schedule includes two matches in Houston against both Rice and Lamar April 13-14 before concluding with a match against Big 12 rival Baylor in Frisco at FC Dallas Stadium on April 20.
Texas Tech returns three players who earned NSCAA All-Region honors in 2012, including NSCAA All-America selection and 2012 Big 12 Rookie of the Year Janine Beckie. Meanwhile, Tech returns over 70 percent of its scoring from the 2012 squad.
