LUBBOCK, Texas - USA Baseball has named Texas Tech junior right-handed pitcher Trey Masek (Giddings, Texas) to its 60-man Golden Spikes Award Watch List, an award given annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country.
Masek is just the second Red Raider over the last 14 years to be named to the prestigious award watch list joining right-handed pitcher Chad Bettis in 2010.
Masek led the Red Raiders this season in wins (5), ERA (1.82), complete games (3), shutouts (1), innings pitched (79.0), strikeouts (69) and opponent batting average (.206).
Masek pitched at least six innings in every start this season that was not a predetermined pitch-count. He made four consecutive starts pitching at least eight innings and allowed two or fewer runs in 8-of-11 starts.
He completed his junior season having not allowed a home run in back-to-back seasons and hasn't allowed a long ball in 132.2 innings pitched dating back to 2011.
He has won 12 games in his career at Tech with a 3.21 ERA which ranks eighth all-time in Tech career record books. In fact, his 1.82 ERA this season is the third best by a Red Raider during the aluminum bat era dating back to 1974 and is the seventh best in school history.
Masek is just one of five Tech pitchers since 1991 to lead the team in wins, ERA, complete games, innings pitched and strikeouts in the same season.
