Second Annual Cotton Game On Tap For Saturday

Texas Tech Athletics and the Texas High Plains cotton industry are partnering for the second annual "Celebrate Cotton Game" on Saturday, Sept. 21, when the 25th-ranked Red Raiders host the Texas State Bobcats at Jones AT&T Stadium.
As part of the game, Texas Tech is asking all fans to wear white to the game to support Texas Tech and to celebrate the cotton industry.
Gameday festivities will celebrate the cotton industry in West Texas and its deep connections to Texas Tech University. Cotton will be everywhere throughout the game, from displays at Raider Alley and around the stadium to promotions, special graphics and fun cotton facts during the game. Special gameday T-shirts will be distributed (first-come, first-serve) and cotton bales will line each entrance to the stadium, each with signage talking about what the cotton in that bale can make or how it impacts our economy.
"This game is important because it's more than just celebrating cotton," said Steve Verett, Executive Vice President, Plains Cotton Growers, Inc. "It's celebrating an entire region of hard-working men and women who grow, process, and merchandise millions of bales of cotton so we can clothe America and the world, and helping more people understand our role in cotton production and its impact on our economy.
Here in the Cotton Capital of the United States, the connections run deep to Texas Tech University. Cotton is represented in the university seal and is studied intensely in research labs across campus. Cotton also is the featured material in the Cotton and Denim Runway 2013 design contest, sponsored by Plains Cotton Cooperative Association (PCCA), Cotton Council International (CCI) and Cotton Incorporated and held in collaboration with the university's College of Human Sciences, Department of Design's Apparel Design and Manufacturing (ADM) program.
"The cotton industry in West Texas is a world-leading producer and Texas Tech is honored to celebrate the accomplishments of our region on a national stage for the second consecutive year," remarked Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt. "Last year's game was a tremendous success and we look forward to bringing more attention to the cotton industry and showing people across the nation that in West Texas - we clothe America."

Kickoff has been set for 6 p.m. and the game will be televised on Fox Sports Net. A limited number of tickets remain available for purchase through the athletics ticket office and can be purchased online at texastech.com/ticket or by calling (806) 742-TECH.
