LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech women's basketball team returns to the court for a home matchup with No. 17 Iowa State at 7:07 p.m., Saturday at United Spirit Arena.
The Lady Raiders (6-12, 0-7 Big 12) will play the second of two games at the USA on Saturday. The Red Raider basketball team plays No. 25 Oklahoma at 3 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to "White Out" the two games on Saturday.
Tech players and coaches were on hand at the Student Union Building on Friday to hand out free hot dogs and white t-shirts to students to encourage everyone to come out to Saturday's doubleheader.
"It's so important to have those students there," Tech women's basketball coach Candi Whitaker said. "We need them in the stands being loud. It's what makes the collegiate experience so special. We had a great turnout today and our players had a lot of fun handing out the free hot dogs and getting to meet and greet the students."
It will be the third of four straight top-25 opponents on the schedule for Tech after facing No. 8 Oklahoma State and No. 18 West Virginia. Tech will take on No. 12 Baylor on Wednesday in Waco.
The Cyclones (14-4, 3-4) lead the series 13-10 and have won 9 of the last 11 games vs. Texas Tech dating back to 2006 - including the last three meetings.
Junior guard Amber Battle leads the Lady Raiders into Saturday's game after another solid performance on Wednesday against the Mountaineers. Battle scored 19 points for her fourth consecutive game of 15 points or more. She scored a career-high 32 points last week against Kansas State and 21 points Saturday at Oklahoma State. Battle is fourth in the Big 12 Conference in scoring with 18.4 points per game this season.
She is third in the Big 12 Conference in rebounding and second in defensive rebounds - the only guard in the top five of either category. Battle has four double-doubles this season and has led Tech in scoring in 14 of 18 games.
The Cyclones come into Saturday's game hungry for a win as well. Iowa State has lost four straight games - including three at home - since beating Tech on Jan. 8 in Ames.
Senior center Hallie Christofferson continues to be one of the top scorers in the Big 12 Conference and leads Iowa State this season. Christofferson is third in scoring (19.7 points per game) in the league and fifth in rebounding (7.8). She's second in the league in free throws made with 98 and has five double-doubles this season.
