Basketball Teams To Host Homecoming Event

LUBBOCK, Texas -- On October 17 - it's "Showtime."
Texas Tech men's and women's basketball will host "Showtime" at 7:30 p.m. on October 17, at United Supermarkets Arena as part of the 2014 Texas Tech Homecoming events schedule.
The event will follow the official Texas Tech Homecoming Parade that begins at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church on Broadway and will end at the USA.
Doors to the free event will open at 6:45 p.m. and begin with an autograph session with both teams for 30 minutes on the concourse level before the program begins.
The Texas Tech Spirit Squads and Goin' Band from Raiderland will welcome fans before they have the chance to win several prizes throughout the night. Contests include two, half-court shots for $10,000 and a two, 30-second shootouts to win $25,000.
Next, fans can sit back and enjoy the show as head coaches Tubby Smith and Candi Whitaker make their special grand entrances into the arena to welcome fans and introduce their teams -- including two videos that can only be seen at the event.
The student athletes will then take over the spotlight beginning with a dunk contest for the men and 3-point contest for the women. Each team will scrimmage to give fans a first-look at the teams before the season starts on Nov. 14.
The event will end with the official Texas Tech Homecoming Pep Rally before sending fans off to the bonfire that begins at 9 p.m. just outside the arena at the recreational rugby fields.

The season tips off on Nov. 14 with a doubleheader at the USA for both teams. The Lady Raiders will start the season off with a 5:30 p.m. tip against Jacksonville State before the men take on Loyola (Md.) at 8 p.m. Fans can order season tickets for both men's and women's basketball now by calling the Texas Tech ticket office at (806) 742-8324 or by going online to www.texastech.com/tickets today.
