Red Raiders in the NFL: Week 7 Recap

Wes Welker caught career touchdown pass No. 508 from Peyton Manning Sunday evening in Denver's 42-17 rout of the San Francisco 49ers. Welker finished with three receptions for 50 yards in the victory that improved Denver to 5-1 this season.

Week 7 Matchup: Patriots 27, Jets 25
Amaro was on the receiving end of three passes for 22 yards this past Thursday as the Jets fell to the New England Patriots, 27-25. Amaro was targeted five times in the loss that also featured a touchdown from a different former Red Raider, New England wideout Danny Amendola. Amaro leads all NFL rookie tight ends with 27 receptions this year for 234 yards. He scored his first career touchdown in Week 6 off a two-yard reception from Geno Smith. His 27 receptions lead the Jets heading into this Sunday's meeting with the Buffalo Bills. He also is second on the team for reception yards, trailing only Eric Decker's 323 yards so far this year. Amaro played three seasons at Tech (2011-13) before being drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
The Jets finally discovered they have Jace Amaro. The rookie has been their best weapon and most underutilized asset on offense all year.

Week 7 Matchup: Patriots 27, Jets 25
Amendola caught his first touchdown of the season last Thursday as he gave the Patriots a 27-19 lead midway through the fourth quarter that proved to be enough in a 27-25 victory over the New York Jets. Amendola was targeted three times in the win but made only one catch which was a 19-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady. He now has five receptions this year for 42 yards. The victory improved the Patriots to 5-2 this season heading into this Sunday afternoon where New England will host the Chicago Bears. Amendola played four seasons at Tech (2004-07) before signing as an undrafted free agent in 2008 with the Dallas Cowboys. He signed with the Patriots prior to the 2013 season after spending the previous four years with the St. Louis Rams.

Week 7 Matchup: Broncos 42, 49ers 17
Crabtree caught four passes for 27 yards Sunday night as the 49ers fell to the Denver Broncos, 42-17. Crabtee was targeted seven times in the loss which dropped the 49ers to 4-3 on the season heading into an off week. He now has 32 receptions, three of which that have gone for touchdowns, this year for 322 yards.The two-time Biletnikoff Award winner played two seasons at Tech (2007-08) before being selected with the 10th overall pick by San Francisco in the 2009 NFL Draft.
Cody Davis (DB) - St. Louis Rams
Week 7 Matchup: Rams 28, Seahawks 26
Davis was part of the Rams' 28-26 victory over the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks on Sunday afternoon as he spent time mainly on special teams. Davis has played a crucial role for the Rams on special teams so far this season as he has appeared in all six games. He has been inserted in the defensive secondary as well as he previously recovered a fumble on Sept. 21 against the Dallas Cowboys. Davis was a four-year letterman with the Red Raiders (2009-12) before signing an undrafted free agent agreement with the Rams in 2013.

Ramirez was part of history Sunday night as he started at center for Peyton Manning, who broke the NFL record for career touchdown passes in Denver's 42-17 rout of the San Francisco 49ers. Denver totaled 419 yards of offense in the victory with 318 coming through the air as the Broncos' offensive line allowed just two sacks. The Denver offensive line allowed Manning plenty of time to pass for four touchdowns, bringing his career total to 510, two more than the previous record set by Brett Favre. The victory improved the Broncos to 5-1 this season entering a Thursday night battle with the San Diego Chargers. Ramirez played four seasons at Tech (2003-06) before being selected in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.
Louis Vasquez (OL) - Denver Broncos

Like Ramirez, Vasquez was also part of history Sunday evening as he started at right guard for the Broncos in a 42-17 rout of the San Francisco 49ers. The Broncos totaled 419 yards of offense behind 318 yards of passing from Peyton Manning, who broke the NFL record for career passing touchdowns in the victory. Week 7 Matchup: Lions 17, Vikings 3
Waddle made his fourth start of the season at right tackle Sunday in Detroit's 24-23 victory over the New Orleans Saints. The Lions totaled 344 yards of offense and surrendered just three sacks in the victory that improved Detroit to 5-2 already this season. Detroit will travel overseas this weekend to face the Atlanta Falcons in London's Wimberly Stadium. Waddle played four seasons at Texas Tech (2009-12) before being signed by the Lions as an undrafted free agent.
Wes Welker (WR) - Denver Broncos
Week 7 Matchup: Broncos 42, 49ers 17
Welker caught the 508th career passing touchdown from Peyton Manning on Sunday night as the Broncos cruised past the San Francisco 49ers, 42-17. Welker's touchdown reception helped Manning tie the NFL career passing touchdown record that was previously set by Brett Favre. Manning went on to add two more touchdown passes as the Broncos improved to 5-1 on the season heading into a Thursday night showdown with the San Diego Chargers. Welker finished with three receptions for 50 yards in the victory, which included a 39-yard pass down the left side that allowed Welker to reach the endzone for the first time this season. Welker now has 17 receptions for 176 yards this year in only four games. Now in his 10th year in the NFL, Welker has 858 receptions during his career which is the most ever by an undrafted player in league history. He previously passed former Denver Broncos wideout Rod Smith, who caught 849 passes during his career. Welker is in his second season with the Broncos after spending the previous six years with the New England Patriots. The former Red Raider has totaled an impressive 9,475 yards and 49 touchdowns during his career. Welker spent four seasons at Tech (2000-03) before being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2004 by the San Diego Chargers.
