LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech women's basketball team continued its preseason workouts on Monday with a different type of workout than the normal routine.
Monday's normal practice time was spent working on a different aspect of basketball - leadership.
The Lady Raiders spent the day with team-building consultant Mark Tribus, as part of the Marsha Sharp Leadership Circle and Fearless Champion Academy.
Tribus, a graduate of West Point and Harvard Business School, served a 20-year career in the U.S. Army which included a combat tour in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. He is now president of his own firm, Mark Tribus, Inc., where he is committed to building winning teams - "one leader at a time."
Student athletes spend time working on different mental and physical aspects instead of the normal basketball drill and workout routine.
Tribus has spent time with many institutions including the Duke men's basketball team, helping head coach Mike Krzyzewski and the Blue Devils during their run to the 2010 NCAA Championship. Now he's using specific time to work exclusively with Texas Tech.
"It's pretty cool that we have the opportunity to work with Mark and his team," senior Kelsi Baker said. "Being a leader is part of being a student athlete and basketball player. He finds a way to drive to have a bigger impact on your team and yourself."
