Red Raiders in the NFL: Week 5 Recap

Jace Amaro caught three passes for the New York Jets this past Sunday in a loss to the Chargers. Amaro, in just his rookie season in the NFL, is one of New York's leading receivers through the first five weeks of the season.

Week 5 Matchup: Chargers 31, Jets 0
Amaro caught three paces for 19 yards Sunday in the Jets' 31-0 loss to the San Diego Chargers. His 19 yards of receiving represented nearly a third of New York's total passing yards as the Jets were held to just 60 yards through the air and 151 yards of total offense. Amaro now has 14 catches on the year for 144 yards. He is tied for second on the club in receptions and ranks third on the team for receiving yards as he is averaging 10.3 yards per catch. Amaro played three seasons at Tech (2011-13) before being drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
Danny Amendola (WR) - New England Patriots
Week 5 Matchup: Patriots 43, Bengals 17
Amendola caught one pass for seven yards Sunday night in New England's 43-17 rout of the Cincinnati Bengals. It was Amendola's first reception since catching three passes for 16 yards in week one against the Miami Dolphins. Amendola played four seasons at Tech (2004-07) before signing as an undrafted free agent in 2008 with the Dallas Cowboys. He signed with the Patriots prior to the 2013 season after spending the previous four years with the St. Louis Rams.
Michael Crabtree (WR) - San Francisco 49ers
Week 5 Matchup: 49ers 22, Chiefs 17
Crabtree was limited to just one reception for 16 yards Sunday as the 49ers held on for a 22-17 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Crabtree has now caught 25 passes this year for 246 yards and a pair of touchdowns heading into next Monday's battle at St. Louis. He has been among Colin Kaepernick's most popular targets this year as he is tied for the team high in receptions and trails only Anquan Bolden in receiving yards. The two-time Biletnikoff Award winner played two seasons at Tech (2007-08) before being selected with the 10th overall pick by San Francisco in the 2009 NFL Draft.
Week 5 Matchup: Eagles 34, Rams 28
Davis saw action Sunday as the St. Louis Rams fell to the Philadelphia Eagles, 34-28, on the road. The Rams are now 1-3 on the year heading into a Monday night battle with San Francisco next week. Davis recovered his first career fumble in the Rams' previous outing, a 34-31 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 21. Davis pounced on a DeMarco Murray fumble in St. Louis territory midway through the first quarter, setting up an eventual Rams touchdown. Davis has seen action in all four games this season mainly on special teams and passing situations. Davis was a four-year letterman with the Red Raiders (2009-12) before signing an undrafted free agent agreement with the Rams in 2013.
Manuel Ramirez (OL) - Denver Broncos
Week 5 Matchup: Broncos 41, Cardinals 20
Behind Ramirez and the rest of the Broncos offensive line, Denver recorded 568 yards of total offense Sunday in a 41-20 drumming of the Arizona Cardinals at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The Denver offense attempted 47 passes in the victory while the offensive line allowed just one sack. The Broncos also rushed for 92 yards en route to posting the most yards of offense in franchise history. Denver is now 3-1 on the season heading into a road trip this Sunday at the New York Jets. Ramirez played four seasons at Tech (2003-06) before being selected in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.
Louis Vasquez (OL) - Denver Broncos
Week 5 Matchup: Broncos 41, Cardinals 20
The Broncos set a franchise record with 568 yards of total offense Sunday as Denver handed the Arizona Cardinals a 41-20 loss at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The Denver offense recorded 476 yards of passing on 47 attempts in the rout behind a dominant offensive line that allowed only one sack. The Broncos are now 3-1 on the season heading into a road trip this Sunday at the New York Jets. Vasquez played four seasons at Tech (2005-08) before being selected in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers.
Week 5 Matchup: Bills 17, Lions 14
Waddle returned to the field Sunday for the first time since suffering a calf injury in Detroit's season opener against the New York Giants. With Waddle back at his normal spot at right tackle, Detroit recorded 263 yards of total offense in a 17-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The loss dropped the Lions to 3-2 on the season heading into a Sunday afternoon battle at Minnesota. Waddle, who was previously inactive for the previous three weeks, played four seasons at Tech (2009-12) before being signed by the Lions as an undrafted free agent.
Wes Welker (WR) - Denver Broncos
Week 5 Matchup: Broncos 41, Cardinals 20
Welker finished with seven catches for 58 yards Sunday as the Broncos torched the Cardinals through the air in a 41-20 rout at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The Denver offense finished with a franchise record 568 yards of total offense in the route, 476 of which that came through the air. Welker's seven catches now gives his 854 for his career, the most ever by an undrafted player in NFL history. He passed a former Denver Bronco for the all-time record in Rod Smith, who caught 849 passes during his career. Welker was appearing for just the second time this season as he previously caught six passes for 60 yards in a Sept. 21 loss at Seattle. Welker is in his second season with the Broncos after spending the previous six years with the New England Patriots. The former Red Raider has caught 847 passes so far in his NFL career while totaling an impressive 9,418 yards and 48 touchdowns. Welker spent four seasons at Tech (2000-03) before being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2004 by the San Diego Chargers.
