NO. 21 TEXAS TECH FACES NO. 19 TEXAS WEDNESDAY
No. 21 Texas Tech (40-16) makes its 14th appearance at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship as the No. 4 seed facing No. 19 Texas (36-16) - the No. 5 seed - in opening-round action on Wednesday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Bricktown Ballpark in downtown Oklahoma City. This year's tournament features a pair of four-team brackets with a double-elimination format. Joining Texas Tech and Texas on its side of the bracket is regular season champion Oklahoma State (41-14) who faces No. 8 seed Oklahoma at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The winners of Tech/UT and OSU/OU will play at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday while the losers will play an elimination game at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Raiders - who are seeded fourth for the first time in the tournament - wrapped up its first 40-win regular season since 2002 with a weekend series sweep over West Virginia - Tech's third sweep of the season (first time since 2002). The Red Raiders are entering tournament play on a four-game win streak and have won eight of their last 11 games. Tech led the Big 12 during the regular season in batting (.294), slugging percentage (.422), runs (360), hits (551), doubles (111), triples (22) and RBI (324). The Longhorns enter the tournament following its third Big 12 road series win of the season at K-State taking 2-of-3 from the defending regular season champion Wildcats.
