Gutierrez, Neslony Earn ABCA All-Midwest Region Honors

Tyler Neslony and Eric Gutierrez were both named to the ABCA All-Midwest Region second team on Friday. It marked the first time in school history where a pair of Texas Tech underclassmen had earned all-region honors.

OMAHA, Neb. - For the first time in Texas Tech history a pair of underclassmen were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Midwest Region Team as sophomore first baseman Eric Gutierrez and outfielder Tyler Neslony were both named to the second team by the association on Friday.
Gutierrez is the first Red Raider first baseman to earn the honor since 2009 (Chris Richburg) while Neslony is the first underclassmen outfielder to be recognized for the Red Raiders since 2007 (Roger Kieschnick).
Gutierrez led the Big 12 this season in home runs (12) and RBI (58) while leading the Red Raiders in all three triple crown categories as he also hit .312 on the season.
Gutierrez has started in 120 consecutive games during his Tech career and has also paced the Red Raiders this season with 23 two-out RBI and eight game-winning RBI. Gutierrez was an All-Big 12 first team pick.
Neslony has led the Big 12 in batting throughout the season with a .388 average with 29 runs, 12 doubles, five triples, four homers and 32 RBI.
Neslony led Tech during Big 12 play with a .377 batting average. He was an All-Big 12 second team selection.
Gutierrez and Neslony are the first Red Raiders to receive ABCA All-Midwest Region since 2012 when Barrett Barnes and Jamodrick McGruder were recognized.
