Texas Tech Holds First Team Practice for 2015

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball team hit the field on Friday for its first team practice of the 2015 season at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
The Red Raiders have three weeks of team practice in preparation for Opening Day, Friday, Feb. 13 against San Francisco at Rip Griffin Park at 2 p.m.
Texas Tech, led by third-year head coach Tim Tadlock, returns 22 players from last season, including five position player starters and eight pitchers that started games a year ago.
All-Big 12 first team first baseman Eric Gutierrez (.302, 12 HR, 58 RBI) and shortstop All-Big 12 first team shortstop Tim Proudfoot (.309, 19 RBI, .990 fielding percentage) return along with All-Big 12 second team outfielder Tyler Neslony, who led the Big 12 batting .375 last season.
Tech also returns sophomore infielder Ryan Long (41 starts, 22 RBI), Freshman All-American right fielder Stephen Smith (.287, 20 RBI, 37 BB) and All-Big 12 honorable mention second baseman Bryant Burleson (.272, .972 fielding percentage), who led the Big 12 in doubles (21) last season.
Overall, Tech welcomes back 13-of-16 pitchers while sophomore left-handed pitcher Dylan Dusek (8-0, 1.94 ERA) was the primary midweek starter last season and sophomore right-handed pitcher Ryan Moseley (1-2, 2.84 ERA) made 22 appearances with five starts in Big 12 play and the NCAA Tournament.
The Red Raiders bring back numerous other pitchers, including senior left-handed pitcher Cameron Smith (8-3, 2.79 ERA), right-handed pitcher Dominic Moreno (4-5, 3.14 ERA), senior right-handed pitcher Corey Taylor (5-3, 2.61 ERA), junior right-handed pitcher Johnathon Tripp (0-1, 2.73 ERA) and junior right-handed pitcher Matt Withrow (3-3, 5.65 ERA) to name a few.
Tech's newcomers received a No. 13 ranked recruiting class ranking by Collegiate Baseball while 15 newcomers joined the program in 2014-15.
