LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech women's basketball team returns home Wednesday to face West Virginia in round two of their season series at 7 p.m. at United Supermarkets Arena.
Tech (12-7, 2-5 Big 12) is looking to end a three-game slide after being edged by Oklahoma on Saturday in Norman. The Lady Raiders erased a 10-point deficit in the second half but fel, 70-64. Three Tech players finished in double figures led by senior guard Amber Battle's 16 points and freshman Dayo Olabode's double-double (14 points, 11 rebounds).
It was the fourth double-double this season for Olabode, who leads all Big 12 freshmen in that category. Ivonne CookTaylor added 10 points off the bench.
The Lady Raiders have found success not only in its aggressive defense but also outside the arc and on the glass. Tech has hit 15 shots from 3-point land in its last two games while outrebounding Oklahoma 41-38. It was the third time in four games and sixth overall this season in which Tech finished with 40 rebounds or more.
West Virginia (12-7, 2-5) had its own problems defending the glass on Saturday against Kansas. The Mountaineers gave up 20 rebounds to forward Chelsea Gardner and watched its 10-point lead disappear in a 65-59 loss in Lawrence. It was the first loss for WVU since losing to Tech on January 14 in Morgantown.
