January 05, 2015 | Women's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech freshman forward Dayo Olabode was honored as the Big 12 Conference Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday, as announced by the conference office.
She joins Baylor's Kristy Wallace as the two freshman honorees this week. Oklahoma's Gioya Carter was named the Big 12 Player of the Week.
This is the second time for Olabode to win the award this season and fourth overall for any Texas Tech player since the creation of the award in 2009.
Olabode was once again the force in the paint for Texas Tech on Sunday. The true freshman forward scored her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds in Tech's 52-37 win over TCU. She scored eight of her 10 points in the first half off of four offensive boards.
The Arlington native averaged 10.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in Tech's wins over Houston Baptist and TCU while connecting on .474 (9-of-19) of her field goal attempts for the week. She is second among Big 12 freshmen with 9.6 points and leads all rookies in total rebounding (6.3) and defensive rebounds (4.0).
Olabode and the Lady Raiders return to the court at 7 p.m., Wednesday against No. 18 Oklahoma State at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater.
