OLABODE NAMED BIG 12 FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Texas Tech freshman forward Dayo Olabode was honored as the Big 12 Conference Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday. She becomes the first Lady Raider to earn honor twice since Kierra Mallard in 2009. Olabode was once again the force in the paint for Texas Tech on Sunday. The true freshman forward scored her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds in Tech's 52-37 win over TCU. She scored eight of her 10 points in the first half off of four offensive boards. The Arlington native averaged 10.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in Tech's wins over Houston Baptist and TCU while connecting on .474 (9-of-19) of her field goal attempts for the week. She is second among Big 12 freshmen with 9.6 points and leads all rookies in total rebounding (6.3) and defensive rebounds (4.0).
100
Texas Tech's win on Sunday was the 100th career win for head coach Candi Whitaker. It was also her first Big 12 Conference win as a head coach.
ENDING THE STREAK
Texas Tech's win over TCU ends its 20-game Big 12 Conference losing streak, dating back to Feb. 27, 2013 when the Lady Raiders beat Oklahoma State, 61-53, in Lubbock.
GIVING UP VERY LITTLE
Texas Tech gave up only 37 points on Sunday vs. TCU. That's the fewest points allowed by Tech in a Big 12 Conference game since giving up only 35 points to Oklahoma State on Feb. 8, 2006 (48-35).
GREAT START
Texas Tech is 11-2 overall and 11-0 at home this season. It's the fifth time in six years that the Lady Raiders have started out non-conference play at home with a perfect record, dating back to the 2009-10 season.
LEADING A BIG 12 OPPONENT ...
Texas Tech led TCU 21-13 at halftime on Sunday. It was the first halftime lead in a Big 12 Conference game since leading Iowa State 40-37 on Jan. 25, 2014. The Lady Raiders led by as much as 21 on Sunday. That's the largest lead over a Big 12 opponent since leading Missouri by 27 on Feb. 5, 2012.
