LUBBOCK, Texas --Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball and head coach Candi Whitaker began official practices in preparation for the 2015-16 campaign, on Monday.Monday's practice marked the beginning of a 33-day countdown to the Lady Raiders' exhibition game against Eastern New Mexico (Nov. 7).
"We're just excited to get started," Whitaker said. "I thought we had a really good first day yesterday, and we're looking to continue that moving forward. We've seen development and improvement throughout the offseason in a lot of areas. I'm looking forward to watching this team continue to grow as a family as we move toward the season."
Whitaker returns seven letterwinners from a much improved 2014-15 squad that increased its Big 12 win total by five from the season before. Not only that, the Lady Raiders also bring in two freshmen in Japreece Dean and Zuri Sanders, who were each ranked among the top 110 players in the nation coming out of high school.
On top of that, a slew of talented transfers have made their way to Lubbock, and though three of them (Recee' Caldwell, Larryn Brooks and Jada Terry) can't play until the 2016-17 season, they will add a whole new intensity to the practice gym that has already been seen by the coaching staff.
Texas Tech will continue regular practices throughout the coming weeks in preparation for the 2015-16 season opener on Nov. 13, against Niagara, at 11 a.m.
