Lady Raiders To Face ENMU In Exhibition Contest
November 06, 2015 | Women's Basketball
The Lady Raiders open the 2015-16 season with an exhibition contest against ENMU on Saturday.
Admission will be complimentary to the public. This game will also feature the debut of the women's basketball rule changes instituted by the NCAA. The most visible change will be that instead of two 20-minute halves, the Lady Raiders will play four 10-minute quarters.

"I think we've improved our skill level and understanding of offensive and defensive concepts over these past 25 practices as you would expect," Whitaker said. "We're excited to play someone else and get it started. The games that count will start rolling in after this weekend. The exhibition gives us a great opportunity to talk about the little things, get a lot on film and clean up some last minute things before the regular season begins."
The Lady Raiders are 2-0 all-time against ENMU, with both victories coming over an 11-day span in 1979: (99-57 on Jan. 11, and 92-56 on Jan. 22).
Out of Tech's seven returners, six played in at least 30 games last season, four of those having started in at least 10 games, two of those having started at least 25 games. The Lady Raiders return three of their top five scorers from a season ago-- Ivonne CookTaylor (9.1 ppg), Dayo Olabode (7.8 ppg) and Rayven Brooks (7.5 ppg). Brooks also led the team in steals, blocks and assists during the 2014-15 campaign.
Tech has brought in some talented newcomers to go along with the experienced veterans as well. Freshmen Japreece Dean and Zuri Sanders were both ranked in ESPN Hoopgurlz's top 110 players in the nation coming out of high school. Saturday will also be the debut for Leashja Grant, a junior transfer from Trinity Valley Community College, where she averaged 12.1 points and 12.9 rebounds per game while leading the Cardinals to the 2015 NJCAA Division 1 National Semifinals.
The ENMU Greyhounds won nine games last season, five of which came in Lone Star Conference Play. ENMU returns its leading scorer, Sarah Stinnett, who averaged 14.4 points per game in 2014-15, good enough for third in the LSC.
