Cierra White has been named the Big 12 Female Indoor Athlete of the Week for the second time in three weeks.
IRVING, Texas -- Following her record-breaking weekend at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, Texas Tech senior Cierra White has been named the Big 12 Indoor Female Co-Athlete of the Week.
This marks the fourth such award Tech has won this season out of a possible eight, and Tech has had at least one Big 12 Athlete of the week in three of the possible four weeks.
White broke two of her own school records in Albuquerque. Last Friday, she ran a 22.98 in the 200 meters, which was not just a school record and national-leading time, but a world-leading time as well. She followed that up on Saturday by running a school-record 7.22 in the 60 meter dash, which places her at No. 6 in the NCAA. She also ran on Tech's 4 x 400m relay, which won the event with a time of 3:37.03, ranking 17th in the nation.
White also won this award on Jan. 28, making her the first female athlete to win this award twice in the same indoor season since 2013. She is the first Lady Raider to do so since Sally Kipyego accomplished the feat in 2007.
"It feels good to win this award again," White said. "I'm very grateful for this recognition. I've been blessed to have so many people support me during my track career. My family, friends and coaches, past and present, have helped me get to where I am today. I just hope to continue to move forward in this sport and grow as a person, both on and off the track."
White shares the award this week with Texas' Courtney Okolo, who ran a world-leading time in the 400 meter dash.
White and the Red Raiders will be back in action this weekend, Feb. 13-14, at the Tyson Invitational, in Fayetteville, Ark.
