Texas Tech Tied for 5th After First Round

Guillermo Pereira led Texas Tech with a 3-under par 69 on Monday at The Prestige at PGA West.

LA QUINTA, Calif. -- Guillermo Pereira fired a 3-under 69 to help Texas Tech finish day one in a four-way tie on Monday at 4-under par in The Prestige at PGA West.
The No. 18 Red Raiders are tied with No. 32 San Diego State, No. 7 UCLA and No. 11 LSU and are four strokes ahead of No. 16 Stanford and nine ahead of No. 2 Oregon.
Pereira holed six birdies in his first round - tied for the fourth-most on Monday - and sits in a tie for eighth with seven others at 3-under par.
Sophomroe Hannes Ronneblad and senior Clement Sordet each stayed under par with a 70 and 71, respectively while Latin Amateur champion Matias Dominguez finished his first round with a 2-over 74.
Dominguez recovered nicely after a 7 on the par-3 second hole with three straight birdies and one of only three eagles on the 527-yard, par-5 seventh hole.
Adam Strom rounded out the first day's team scores with a 4-over 76. Senior Esteban Restrepo, playing as an individual, is tied for 15th alongisde Ronneblad at 2-under par.
Tech will head back out on the links on Tuesday beginning at 7:30 a.m. PT on holes 1-5 alongside Washington and LSU.
