Senior Clement Sordet fired a 1-under, 71 in today's final round to claim medalist honors at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate but the No. 15 Red Raiders couldn't hang on to the team lead and finished in second place behind No. 35 TCU.
Texas Tech shot a 5-over, 293 in today's final round but a 5-under, 283 by TCU cost the Red Raiders their first team title of the season. The Red Raiders ended the three-day tournament at 8-under, 856 while TCU finished 9-under, 855.
"I thought there were many positives in the last two events," Texas Tech Head Coach Greg Sands said. "We played very good golf at times but today we had a chance to win and simply didn't have the patience and grit to get it done. We have so much to learn this spring and I can't wait to get back to work and prepare for Las Vegas."
With the win, Sordet becomes the first Red Raider in school history to win five tournaments over the course of a career.
"I am very happy for Clement to get the win individually," Sands noted. "He overpowered this golf course and showed why he is going to be a great professional player one day."
Sordet won medalist honors by four strokes over TCU's Paul Barjon as he carded an 11-under, 205. He was under par in all three rounds of the tournament, including a 65 in round two.
Sophomore Hannes Ronneblad and senior Esteban Restrepo tied for 10th place overall with scores of 1-over, 217.
Texas Tech returns to action March 9-11 at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters.
