Lady Raiders Head North to Take on Jayhawks

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's basketball team begins its two-game road trip this week with a rematch against Kansas at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kan.
The game will be broadcast on Jayhawk TV locally in Kansas and online at ESPN3.com or on the Watch ESPN app for smartphones and tablets. This is the second meeting this season between the two schools in two weeks. Kansas won the first meeting in Lubbock, 68-66, after erasing a 17-point deficit in the second half.
Both teams sit in a five-way tie for sixth place in the Big 12 Conference standings heading into Wednesday night's game which begins the second half of conference play.
Tech (13-8, 3-6 Big 12) completed a two-game homestand and its first season sweep of a Big 12 Conference opponent this season with a 73-57 win over West Virginia on Wednesday before falling 41-38 on Saturday against Kansas State.
Senior guard Amber Battle earned two Big 12 Player of the Week awards on Monday by the Big 12 Conference and Phillips 66, as well as CollegeSportsMadness.com. She scored a career-high 33 points on 11 of 15 shooting against West Virginia, including a perfect 6-for-6 behind the arc. Battle is the only Lady Raider since Jia Perkins and Plenette Pierson (2001-03) to post two games of 30 points or more in two seasons.
Kansas (12-10, 3-6) has won two of its last three games since the two teams last met. The Jayhawks erased another second half deficit last week, this time against West Virginia, as Chelsea Gardner poured in 20 points and 20 rebounds against the Mountaineers. She leads the team and is third in the league with 16 points and eight rebounds per game overall.
The Jayhawks have defended The Phog for the most part this season, winning 10 of 14 home games including a 62-39 win over then-No. 10 Cal in December. Tech is 4-7 on the road against the Jayhawks. Tech's last win at Allen Fieldhouse was 72-70 on Feb. 24, 2013.

BATTLE EARNS TWO BIG 12 WEEKLY AWARDS
Texas Tech senior guard Amber Battle has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week by both the Big 12 Conference and College Sports Madness, as announced Monday by both publications. She is the first Lady Raider to earn the honor by College Sports Madness and the first Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Player of the Week since Kierra Mallard earned the honor Dec. 5, 2012. Battle averaged 26 points and four rebounds in Texas Tech's win over West Virginia and three-point loss to K-State. She was 19-of-33 from the field (.576) and 7-of-13 behind the arc (.538) last week in 69 minutes of action. The senior guard scored a career-high 33 points on 11-of-15 shooting and was a perfect 6-for-6 on 3-pointers in the win over WVU. Battle is the only Lady Raider since Jia Perkins and Plenette Pierson (2001-03) to post two games of 30 points or more in two seasons.
STEALING IT AWAY
Texas Tech redshirt sophomore Ivonne CookTaylor scored seven points, eight rebounds and had a career-high five steals on Saturday against Kansas State.
GETTING DEFENSIVE
Texas Tech allowed the second-lowest total points to a Big 12 opponent this season by giving up only 41 on Saturday to Kansas State. The Lady Raiders boast the second-best scoring defense in Big 12 Conference play this season, giving up only 57.1 points per game in nine league games.
SEASON LOWS
Texas Tech's 38 points on Saturday was it's second-lowest total this season. The Lady Raiders scored 35 points in a loss at Oklahoma State on Jan. 7. They also tied a season-low for points in a half with 14 in the second half against the Wildcats.
