No. 10 Texas Tech shot 1-over, 289 in today's final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters to earn a seventh place finish in one of the premier college golf events of the spring.
The Red Raiders picked up a couple of key top 25 wins over third-ranked USC and No. 18 Alabama. Top ranked Illinois finished sixth in the event, just three strokes ahead of the Red Raiders.
All seven teams that finished behind Tech in the final standings are ranked in the top 50 nationally.
"It was great to play at Southern Highlands this week," Head Coach Greg Sands said. "The guys played really well at times. Right now we are a very good team, but we have to continue to work on the little things to become a great team. I know these guys won't settle for that and they know exactly what we need to work on for the next tournament."
No. 4 Texas won the team title with a three round score of 26-under, 838. Alabama's Robby Sheldon earned medalist honors at 15-under, 201.
Senior Matias Dominguez led Texas Tech at 2-under and that placed him in a five-way tie for 18th place. Dominguez carded rounds of 71, 69 and 74.
Texas Tech placed two other individuals in the Top 35 as senior Clement Sordet tied for 30th while freshman Wes Artac tied for 34th. Sordet finished at even par while Artac was 1-over.
The Red Raiders will return to action March 23-24, at the Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio.
