Cameron Smith Named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

Smith is the first Red Raider left-handed pitcher to be named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week since 2007 (Colt Hynes).

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior left-handed pitcher Cameron Smith (Seabrook, Texas) led Texas Tech to an 11-0 shutout over No. 28 San Diego State last weekend, and today was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon.
Smith becomes the first Red Raider named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week since 2013 when junior right-handed pitcher Trey Masek earned the award. Overall, Smith's selection marks the 20th all-time by a Red Raider and just the fourth since 2010.
In addition, Smith is the first Red Raider left-handed pitcher to be selected Big 12 Pitcher of the Week since 2007 when senior Colt Hynes was honored.
Smith led the Red Raiders to an 11-0 victory over No. 28 San Diego State on the road while pitching seven shutout innings with six strikeouts allowing only three hits and three walks.
He allowed only two runners to reach scoring position while facing one batter over the minimum from the fourth to seventh inning with five of his six strikeouts during that stretch.
Smith also became the first Red Raider this season to pitch at least five innings in four consecutive starts.
Smith and the Red Raiders will be back in action at home taking on Oral Roberts for a two-game midweek series, starting Tuesday, March 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
