LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior Janine Beckie will be back in action with the Canadian National Team over the next week at the Cyprus Women's Cup which begins Wednesday morning at GSP Stadium in Nicosia, Cyprus.
Canada will open the Cyprus Cup at 7:30 a.m. CT Wednesday morning against Scotland before facing Korea Republic on Friday and Italy next Monday. All four teams will then be seeded based on results from the group stage and play a ranking match on March 11.
Canada has selected 24 players to its roster for the tournament, six of them being forwards including Beckie. This will be Canada's first tournament since winning the Bao'an Cup this past January.
Beckie, who is making her fourth appearance with the Canadian National Team, is looking to solidify a spot on Canada's roster as this will be the squad's final event prior to this summer's FIFA Women's World Cup.
Beckie, the 2014 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, is coming off a solid performance at the Bao'an Cup where she connected on a goal in the 51st minute of the tournament opener against Korea. It was the first career international goal for Beckie with the full national team.
Canada will name its final roster later this spring for the FIFA Women's World Cup that will begin this June. Beckie is currently in residence in Canada, training with the team daily in preparation for the event.
