LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech senior Amber Battle was selected to the Big 12 Conference All-Big 12 First Team on Wednesday, announced by the conference office.
Battle was one of 10 players to be named to the first team, joining Nina Davis (Baylor), Niya Johnson (Baylor), Nikki Moody (Iowa State), Chelsea Gardner (Kansas), Peyton Little (Oklahoma), Brittney Martin (Oklahoma State), Zahna Medley (TCU), Imani McGee-Stafford (Texas) and Bria Holmes (West Virginia).
This was Battle's first, first-team selection. She was an All-Big 12 Second Team selection in 2014 and a preseason honorable mention All-Big 12 pick in October. Battle is the first All-Big 12 First Team selection since Chynna Brown earned the honor in 2013.
The senior guard started 24 games this season while averaging 15.8 points (4th in Big 12) and 5.6 rebounds per game for the Lady Raiders. She scored in double digits 21 times and had two double-doubles. Battle scored a career-high 33 points on Jan. 28 against West Virginia, becoming the first Lady Raider since 2003 to score 30 points or more in consecutive seasons.
She was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week and College Sports Madness Player of the Week on Feb. 2 after her performance against the Mountaineers.
Battle became the 31st Lady Raider to score 1,000 career points on Feb. 28 against Oklahoma State. She now sits in 29th on Tech's all-time scoring list with 1,027 points.
The Lady Raiders open the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship against West Virginia at 8:30 p.m., Friday at American Airlines Center in Dallas.
