LUBBOCK, Texas - It was an experience like no other.
Matias Dominguez walked off the No. 18 green on Friday afternoon at Augusta National as the first ever active Red Raider to play in the Masters, carding his second-straight 4-over 76, just six strokes from advancing to Saturday's third round of play.
The Chilean native earned his first birdie of the tournament on the second hole of the day before making yet another unforgettable memory with an eagle on the back nine at No. 13.
Dominguez, who dropped 22 pars out of the 36 holes, finished 8-over in his Masters debut.
Former Texas Longhorn Jordan Spieth continues to chase history as he fired a 66 on Friday, shattering the Masters record set by Ray Floyd in 1976 for the best score through the first 36 holes. The 21-year-old leads the field by five strokes at 14-under-par while Charley Hoffman will start in second place and Justin Rose in third at 7-under.
Dominguez returns to Lubbock this week as he and the Red Raiders prepare to host the JP Energy Red Raider Shootout featuring No. 2 Texas, No. 21 New Mexico and No. 31 TCU on Saturday, April 18 at the Rawls Golf Course in Lubbock.
