Kole Weldon broke the Texas Tech hammer throw school record at the Texas Tech open, on Friday, in Lubbock.

Weldon's best throw of the evening, a launch of 61.35m/201-3, broke his own school record by nearly a foot and a half, and was enough to win the event. Weldon showed great consistency, as four of his six throws went at least 192 feet.
"Kole [Weldon] looked good today," Texas Tech assistant coach Cliff Felkins said. "However, he is just getting going. I have seen way better throws in practice from him. I wouldn't be surprised if he had four throws go over 200 feet in a few weeks."
This marks the third time Weldon has broken a school record in 2015--he broke his own weight throw record twice during the indoor season. Texas Tech school records have now been broken 20 times in 2015.
In the women's javelin, the Lady Raiders went 1-2, as Hannah Carson (54.06m/177-4) won the event, continuing her hot start to 2015, and Natalie Baker took second, with a personal-best throw of 43.48m/142-8.
Alexis Lewis won the women's hammer, with a throw of 51.63m/169-4.
The Red Raiders will be back in action tomorrow at the Terry & Linda Fuller Track & Field Complex, with field events beginning at noon, and running events starting at 3 p.m.
