Big 12, SEC Announce Women's Basketball Challenge

Texas Tech will play Arkansas in 2016 and host LSU in 2017 as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Big 12 and Southeastern Conferences have announced an extension of their women's basketball challenge that will expand to 10 games in 2016 and 2017.
Texas Tech will take on Arkansas in Fayetteville in 2016 and then play host to LSU in 2017.
"This will be two great matchups for us over the next couple of years," Tech head coach Candi Whitaker said. "Both of these conferences have great women's basketball traditions and we are excited to be a part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge."
Every team from the Big 12 will participate while 10 teams from the SEC will take part in each season. The format features five home games on campus sites for each conference per year. Teams will not face the same opponent twice.
In 2016, games will be scheduled over the dates of Thursday-Sunday, December 1-4. Exact dates of matchups and television designation will be released when available.
"We are excited to see the Big 12/SEC Challenge expand to include all 10 of our institutions," said Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. "This gives each of our teams an opportunity for a quality non-conference opponent and provides marquee matchups between two of the nation's top conferences."
Tech is 84-59 against the SEC all time. The Lady Raiders and Razorbacks have not faced off since 2009 with Tech taking the 75-60 win. The two were regular opponents during the Southwest Conference days with Arkansas leading the all-time series 17-9.
Tech hosted LSU in the opening game of the 2005 State Farm Tip-Off Classic with the Tigers taking a 76-68 win. LSU leads the all-time series 8-1.
