LUBBOCK, Texas - The ninth-ranked Texas Tech Men's Golf team opens up play in the NCAA Lubbock Regional on Thursday with hopes of advancing to the NCAA Championships for the second time in three years.
The top five teams from the Lubbock Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships held May 29-June 3 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla. The last time Texas Tech advanced to the NCAA Championships was 2013 where the Red Raiders tied for 14th place overall.
For the first time in school history, the NCAA Regional will be conducted at the Rawls Golf Course on the campus of Texas Tech which will play at par 71 over 7,349 yards. The course has been named the No. 4 collegiate course in the nation by Golfweek Magazine and the No. 2 course in Texas by Golfweek.
Texas Tech will be the No. 2 seed in the Lubbock Regional and is one of six teams from the Big 12 Conference in this year's postseason field. Texas is the top seed in the regional followed in order by Texas Tech, Auburn, North Florida, California, Houston, Louisville, Duke, Southeastern Louisiana, Purdue, Georgia State, UC-Irvine and Charleston Southern.
Now with 14 consecutive NCAA trips, the Red Raiders continue to hold the longest active postseason streak on campus and the second longest in school history. The women's basketball team made 16 straight trips to the NCAA Tournament from 1990-2005.
The Red Raiders are led by junior Clement Sordet who owns eight top-10 finishes in the last 11 tournaments. He paces the team with a 70.8 stroke average through 34 rounds of golf. Sordet became the first Red Raider since 2011 to be named to the All-Big 12 Conference team while also picking up his third All-Big 12 Championship team honor following his third place finish at the conference tournament at Southern Hills Country Club.
The Red Raiders will tee off beginning at 8am CT alongside top-seed Texas and Auburn. Live scoring for tournament can be found online at golfstat.com.
