LUBBOCK, Texas -- No. 16 Texas Tech finished fifth in attendance announce the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Friday.
It marked the fourth straight season that Texas Tech has finished in the Top 10 in attendance and the third time in the last four year that Texas Tech has finished in the top five.
The Lady Raiders averaged 182 fans per match, but more impressively average 264 fans in the month of April to lead the nation. The national attendance average does not include postseason. If you add the first and second rounds, Texas Tech averaged 225 fans per match thanks to the 1,004 fans in attendance.
"We would not have had the success of this season without our fans," said Lady Raider head coach Todd Petty. "The fan support helped us win some big matches and advance to the Sweet Sixteen. We cannot thank them enough."
The 225 fans per match is the third highest season average in program history. The Lady Raiders averaged a school-record 349 fans in 2012 and 254 fans in 2013.
The Lady Raiders are in Waco, preparing to face No. 1 USC tonight at 7 p.m. at the Hurd Tennis Center.
