LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior offensive lineman Jared Kaster was named Tuesday to the Rimington Trophy Watch List which is presented annually to the nation's top center.
Kaster, a native of Altair, Texas, is one of 52 centers across the country named to the watch list and one of six hailing from the Big 12 Conference. This is the first time in his career where Kaster has appeared on a preseason watch list.
Kaster has bolstered the Tech offensive line each of the past two seasons as he enters 2015 having started at center in 25-consecutive games dating back to his 2013 sophomore campaign. The Red Raider offensive line allowed just 13 sacks a year ago while paving the way for Tech's first 1,000-yard rusher since 1998 in DeAndre Washington.
The Rimington Trophy, founded in 2000 in honor of former Nebraska standout Dave Rimington, is awarded to the center that collects the most first-team All-America votes from the Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News and the Football Writers Association of America.
Rimington was a consensus first team All-American from 1981-82 at Nebraska where he also became the only double winner of the John Outland Trophy which is presented to the nation's finest collegiate interior lineman.
The 2015 Rimington Trophy will be presented on Jan. 16, 2016, at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska.
