LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior catcher Tyler Floyd (Stephenville, Texas) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 7 ® First Team while one of only 10 NCAA-Division I baseball student-athletes in the country to have earned a 4.0 cumulative grade point average and received all-district honors.
The 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District ® Baseball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance athletically and in the classroom.
Floyd, who has received a perfect 4.0 GPA in three consecutive semesters as a Red Raider (2013-Present), is an Exercise and Sport Science major and Personal Financial Planning minor, has started 40-of-49 games for Tech behind the plate this season while batting .240 with 20 runs, six doubles, two home runs, nine RBI, 20 walks and a .372 on-base percentage.
He is the first Red Raider to have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District ® Team since 2012 when junior first baseman Scott LeJeune was recognized.
Floyd was named to the All-District 7 Team, which is comprised of NCAA Division I baseball student-athletes from the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico and Wyoming.
First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
