LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech freshman Zuri Sanders scored 10 points to help lead the Indiana Girls Senior All-Stars to an 88-58 win over the Kentucky Girls Senior All-Stars on Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The former Evansville Central star was one of four players in double digits for Indiana, who won the opening game, 93-49, on Friday in Lexington.
Sanders spent a week in Lubbock at Texas Tech before heading back to Indiana to prepare for the prestigious event and then headed back to West Texas on Sunday to rejoin her Lady Raider teammates."Getting that phone call to be an All-Star is such a great feeling," Sanders told the Indianapolis Star. "To hear (All-Star game director) Charlie Hall's voice telling me that I was chosen was an honor. My coach realized that this was a big thing and that I needed to be there with my teammates."
Indiana won its third and fourth consecutive games in the series against Kentucky, using its foul line shooting to help tip the second game in its favor. Indiana finished 29-for-35 from the line while Kentucky struggled from outside, hitting just 1 of 25 outside the arc.
Sanders signed with Texas Tech back in November alongside freshman Japreece Dean (Cedar Park, Texas). She is one of eight newcomers on the Lady Raiders roster for next season along with seven returning players.
The 6-foot forward averaged 16.1 points and 11 rebounds last season for Evansville Central while hitting 53 percent from the field. She helped lead the Bears to a 22-4 record and their third Sectional Championship in four years. Sanders was named to the Indiana All-State Second Team by the Associated Press while being named All-City First Team and Team MVP.
