June 08, 2015 | Women's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech freshman Zuri Sanders will play in the annual Indiana vs. Kentucky All-Star Games this week.
She is one of 14 Indiana senior girls all stars selected to the team by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
"We are very proud of Zuri and her selection," Tech head coach Candi Whitaker said. "It is an honor to be named to the Indiana All-Star Team and awesome to have someone representing the Double T in these games."
Sanders (Evansville Central - Evansville, Ind.) was ranked as a three-star recruit and the No. 18 forward out of high school in the class of 2015 by ESPN.com. She was also ranked as the No. 13 overall player out of Indiana, according to Dan Olson's Girls Basketball Report. Sanders ended her senior season with 19.7 points and 9.1 rebounds per game while also averaging 3.2 steals and 2.8 assists.
She signed with Texas Tech in November 2014.
The Indiana Girls All-Stars will play exhibitions on June 8 and June 10 against the Indiana Junior All-Stars at sites to be determined. The Indiana All-Stars also will face the Kentucky All-Stars on June 12 at Transylvania University in Lexington and June 13 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
All four dates will be doubleheaders with the Indiana Boys All-Stars.
The Indiana All-Stars program was founded in 1939 when the Indiana Boys All-Stars played the state champion Frankfort Hot Dogs. The series with Kentucky began in 1940, and the girls portion of the All-Stars was added in 1976.
The Indiana portion of the All-Star Games is organized and produced by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. The Indianapolis Star, with its IndyStar.com brand, is a title sponsor and Best Choice Fieldhouse is a presenting sponsor.
