Beckie, the reigning Big 12 Offensive Player of Year, was one of four unanimous selections, joining the likes of Kadeisha Buchanan (West Virginia), Abby Smith (Texas) and Ashley Lawrence (West Virginia). It marked the third-consecutive season where Beckie has earned preseason honors and the first time she has been a unanimous selection.
Devine was recognized on the preseason team for the first time in her career as she was one of three defenders chosen. The team was determined in a vote of the conference coaches.
Janine Beckie was named to the All-Big 12 Preseason Team for a third-straight season on Thursday.
A preseason candidate for the MAC Hermann Trophy, Beckie highlights the preseason team after leading the Big 12 in scoring a year ago. The Highlands Ranch, Colorado native ranked among the national leaders with 17 goals, six of which that were game-winners, while also adding four assists for 38 total points.
Beckie, who was named the sixth-best player in the country Wednesday by TopDrawerSoccer.com, has been named a NSCAA All-American twice already in her illustrious career. She enters her senior season as Texas Tech's career leader for goals, game-winning goals and shot attempts.
Devine, meanwhile, helped boost a Tech defense that recorded nine shutouts in 2014. Despite focusing primarily on the back line, Devine made her way up front for set pieces where she connected on six goals, second-most on the team, while adding a pair of assists. Her selection marked the fourth-straight season where a Red Raider defender has been named to the preseason team.
The Red Raiders close preseason preparations Saturday evening when Texas Tech travels to face the University of Denver in an exhibition match. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT at CIBER Field in Denver.
Texas Tech opens the 2015 season on Aug. 21 at the Lobo Invitational hosted by New Mexico. The Red Raiders begin the tournament against Southern California before facing the host Lobos on Aug. 23.
