LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech head women's basketball coach Candi Whitaker announced on Monday the addition of Ray Caldwell to her staff, as an assistant coach.
In his eight-year tenure coaching various levels of basketball, Caldwell has coached 18 NCAA Division-I men's and women's basketball players, and trained eight professionals currently playing overseas. He has also worked with three McDonalds All-Americans.
During that time, Caldwell also worked with various teams, facilities, NCAA certification departments and scouting services to organize approved tournaments on a yearly basis.
"Ray is an outstanding coach with a proven track record of developing top players," Whitaker said. "He has established quality relationships across the country in grassroots girls basketball. His talents as a coach and recruiter will help us pursue our goal of competing at the highest level. He is a fantastic addition to an established coaching staff."
Since 2007, Caldwell has been a lead trainer and head coach at SA Finest Basketball, in San Antonio, Texas, where he formulated and implemented individual skill set developmental programs for hundreds of student-athletes and professional players.
I am truly elated to join the Texas Tech staff as an assistant coach," Caldwell said. "The rich history of the Lady Raiders and vision of Coach Candi Whitaker compelled me to jump at this opportunity. The resources are top notch and the staff is one that I can contribute to and learn from. A focused momentum is present in the program and I look forward to doing my part in helping the Lady Raiders take their rightful place among the best in the country.
Caldwell attended Mt. San Jacinto Junior College and Chapman University, and is currently progressing toward a degree from Northern Arizona University. He and his wife, Alba, have two daughters--Recee' and Desiree.
