Mahomes Named Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week

DALLAS -- Texas Tech sophomore quarterback Patrick Mahomes II (Whitehouse, Texas/Whitehouse H.S.) earned his second consecutive Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honor, the league office announced on Monday morning. Mahomes shared the honor with Baylor's Corey Coleman.
Mahomes earned his third career weekly honor as he has been named the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week on December 1, 2014, September 7, 2015 and now September 14, 2015.
Mahomes accounted for six touchdowns (four passing and two rushing) in Texas Tech's 69-20 win over UTEP. He completed 18 of 33 passes for 361 yards, including 297 yards in the first half alone. The sophomore also ran for 27 yards on six carries. Mahomes has now thrown for 300 or more yards and four or more touchdown passes in five consecutive games. Over the first six starts of his career, he has thrown for 2,214 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and just three interceptions.
Mahomes leads the nation in points responsible for (60) and ranks No. 2 nationally in total offense per game (428.5), passing yards (786), passing yards per game (393.0) and passing touchdowns (8). Through two games this year, Mahomes has completed 51 of 86 passing attempts for 786 yards, eight touchdowns and only one interception. He has a 164.45 pass efficiency rating.
