Women's Tennis Remains at No. 17 in ITA Rankings

The Lady Raiders begin the dual match season this weekend with the ITA Kickoff event at the McLeod Tennis Center after playing in a three-day tournament at Hawaii from Jan. 5-7.

SKILLMAN, N.J. -- The Texas Tech women's tennis team held the No. 17 position in the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings announced Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The Lady Raiders (0-0) open their dual match season as one of 16 host sites for the ITA Kickoff event on Saturday and Sunday at the McLeod Tennis Center. It marks the first time in program history that Texas Tech will host the ITA Kickoff weekend.
Tech is one of four Big 12 teams to check in among the ITA's Top 25 which include Oklahoma State (11), Baylor (14) and TCU (22). The four Big 12 teams is tied for third-most tied with the Pac-12.
The ITA singles and doubles rankings remain unchanged until Feb. 10. The Lady Raiders top doubles pair of Lynn Kiro and Alex Valenstein are No. 25 whereas Gabriela Talaba holds a No. 77 singles ranking.
Texas Tech welcomes No. 30 Virginia Tech, No. 58 Illinois and No. 60 Oregon for the ITA Kickoff Weekend at the McLeod Tennis Center. The Red Raiders take on Oregon Saturday at 11 a.m. CT and will meet either Virginia Tech or Illinois Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. Admission is free to all home tennis matches.
