Lubbock, Texas-- Head coach Tom Stone and the Texas Tech soccer program welcomed Jade King to Lubbock Thursday as the freshman began her academic career at Tech after graduating high school last month.
"Jade King was a fantastic youth player," said Texas Tech head coach Tom Stone. "She developed her game at EGA under Marcus Kelcher and spent her last two years in Minnesota with the Thunder and both clubs did a great job helping get Jade prepared for the college game. We wanted Jade to be a Red Raider from the first time we saw her play five years ago and watching her development since then cemented our belief that she could be an outstanding attacking player in college. Fast, physical and highly competitive-it's going to be great to be able to train her for the entire spring season before her first real college games next fall. We feel fortunate to have this time with Jade to get her ready for hopefully an outstanding freshmen season."The Eagan, Minnesota, product was a two sport athlete at Eagan High School competing in both soccer and track for the Wildcats.
"I feel extremely blessed to have the opportunity to play at Texas Tech," said King. "It has been my dream to play the sport I love at a collegiate level for as long as I can remember. I can't wait to get to work, and Guns up!"
The Eagan soccer program has become one of the premier soccer programs in the state of Minnesota after winning back to back Minnesota State Championships in 2014 and `15 including an undefeated season in 2014.
Last season, while the Red Raiders were hunting down their first Big 12 Championship, Jade King was busy scoring goals at an incredible rate. King finished the season with 28 total goals en route to her second all-state selection and season MVP award.
"We are thrilled that our daughter Jade will be attending Texas Tech University as a student-athlete," said Joy King. "It has been her dream to be a Red Raider since Tom Stone and her staff began recruiting her in 8th grade. We could not be happier for Jade's dream to be coming true. We appreciate the coaches and staff for helping make that happen."
