Women's Tennis Stays at No. 17 in ITA Rankings

SKILLMAN, N.J. -- The Texas Tech women's tennis team remained at No. 17 spot in the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings announced Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The Lady Raiders (2-0) began their dual match season with a pair of dominant victories over then No. 60 Oregon and No. 58 Illinois as part of the ITA Kickoff weekend. The victories allowed Texas Tech to punch its first ticket to the ITA National Indoor Championships. Tech is one of six schools to have both its women's and men's programs qualify for the event joining Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio State, Texas A&M and Virginia.
The Lady Raiders are one of a quartet of Big 12 teams to be ranked inside the ITA's Top 25 which include Oklahoma State (10), Baylor (15) and TCU (22). The four Big 12 teams are tied for third-most for a conference with the Pac-12.
The ITA singles and doubles rankings remain unchanged until Feb. 10. The Lady Raiders top doubles pair of Lynn Kiro and Alex Valenstein are No. 25 whereas Gabriela Talaba, the reigning Big 12 Player of the Week, holds a No. 77 singles ranking.
Texas Tech squares off with No. 30 Fresno State and Abilene Christian for a Saturday doubleheader at the McLeod Tennis Center. First serve is set for 11 a.m. CT and 4 p.m. CT, respectively.
