Texas Tech volleyball senior Marguerite Grubb is not the typical student athlete. With balancing graduate classes, maintaining a nearly flawless GPA, and a rigorous schedule of practices and matches, it is no surprise that Grubb is this month's Red Raider Club Scholar Athlete of the Month.
Â
"Marguerite is clearly a great student and she takes her academics seriously," Texas Tech volleyball head coach Tony Graystone said. "She knows what her goals are, and it's a great example for our younger players to see."
Â
Grubb, who posted a 4.0 GPA on her way to earning her bachelor's degree in accounting, started graduate school in the spring and has made only one B in her college career. She also shines on the court as one of five Big 12 players to average over 10 assists per set.
Â
"I think that prioritizing time is what has really helped me get where I am today," Grubb said. "Also, my parents have always instilled that academics is the ultimate goal."
ÂWithout the Red Raider Club, I would not be where I am today.
Grubb found a knack for accounting at an early age like she did for volleyball.
Â
"I love organizing things," Grubb said. "My brain works very logically, and I like it when things make sense. I remember organizing a deck of cards when I was a kid during the summer, and I alphabetize my movies in my apartment."
Â
According to Grubb, volleyball and accounting are compatible with each other.
Â
"I think that volleyball and accounting go hand in hand," Grubb said. "You have to be precise in both, and by having a detailed mind, I think that I can see things on the court and perform the way that the coaches want me to.
Â
Graduating with her master's degree in May, Grubb is grateful for people who have helped her succeed along the way.
Â
"I am so appreciative for Texas Tech and the people who are involved," Grubb said. "Without the Red Raider Club, I would not be where I am today. By providing support and scholarships, I am able to go to graduate school and graduate in May."
