Three-time Georgia state champion joins Lady Raiders 2017 signing class
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Lady Raider Basketball Head Coach Candi Whitaker announced the signing of Lyndsey Whilby to the 2017 class on Wednesday morning.
Â
"We couldn't be more excited to welcome Lyndsey to the Lady Raider family," Whitaker said. "Her skillset as a dynamic wing with a high motor, good size and prolific three-point shooting fits perfectly with our team.
Â
"Lyndsey is a high-character kid that is a great fit for our program. She comes from a nationally renowned high school in McEachern and is a proven winner."
Â
Whilby is a 5-11 guard from Hiram, Ga. She is ranked one of the top 30 wings in the 2017 class by ESPN HoopGurlz. Whilby was also named a four-star recruit by ProspectsNation.com and a top 100 recruit by All Star Girls Report.
Â
"I chose Texas Tech because of the welcoming feeling I received from my future teammates when I stepped on campus," Whilby said. "Coach Whitaker and her staff were also a major reason for my decision. They were on the sidelines to support me at every AAU game. Coach Brandi Poole was there through the good games and bad."
Â
During her high school career, Whilby helped lead McEachern High School to win three-straight Girls 4-AAAAAA Georgia State Championships (2014-16) where she played for head coach Phyllis Arthur.
Â
Whilby is a member of the Atlanta-based WP Celtics, one of the premier AAU programs in the country, under head coach Renardo Hudson.
Â
"While on my official visit, I was able to see how intense the Lady Raiders' practices were and Coach [Ray] Caldwell walked me though exactly how I would impact the team," Whilby said.
Â
"The campus is so beautiful and the fans bring a spirited passion to cheering on the Lady Raiders. The academic support is top notch and I know I will be successful in the classroom. When my visit was over, my mom and I knew Texas Tech was the place for me to spend the next four years."
Â
Whilby joins transfer Erin DeGrate in the 2017 class. She chose Texas Tech over Kansas, Georgia Tech, Houston and Arizona.
Â
