Red Raiders Hold Commanding First Round Lead At El Macero

Hurly Long (E) is in second place overall, two shots behind Federico Zucchetti (-2) as Tech holds a 12-shot lead over the field through round one.

EL MACERO, Calif.. -- Behind a great first-round 1-2 punch from Federico Zucchetti and Hurly Long, Texas Tech has a 12-shot lead through 18 holes at the El Macero Classic.The Red Raiders carded a 3-over 291 on Friday, led by Zucchetti (-2) and Long (E), who sit 1-2 on the leaderboard heading into round 2.
Texas Tech was the only team to come in below 300 in round one. Second-place Oregon State (+15) was the closest, at 303.
Overall, four Red Raiders currently sit inside the top-15, as Wes Artac (+2) is tied for seventh, and Ivan Ramirez (+3) is tied for 14th.
Zucchetti's 2-under 70 was a consistent round featuring four birdies, compared to just two bogeys. As a team, the Red Raiders were even par on par-5 holes in round one.
Tomorrow's second round at the par-72, 6,912-yard El Macero Country Club is set to begin at noon CST. Texas Tech will be in the first group to tee off, paired with TCU and Oregon State.
