LUBBOCK, Texas - Tyler Floyd highlighted Texas Tech's 11 total selections to the Academic All-Big 12 teams that were announced by the conference office Thursday morning.
Floyd, who received first-team honors for the second time in his career, was the only Big 12 baseball student-athlete nominated with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. He earned the same distinction in 2015 as well.
Floyd, who is currently enrolled in graduate school at Texas Tech, was joined on the first team by Zach Davis (Exercise and Sports Science), Orlando Garcia (Accounting), Eric Gutierrez (General Studies), Ryan Long (University Studies), Ryan Moseley (University Studies), Jacob Patterson (Electrical Engineering) and Cory Raley (University Studies).
In addition, three Red Raiders also earned second-team honors - Ty Damron (Sport Management), Michael Davis (University Studies) and Hunter Hargrove (Media Strategies).
The Red Raiders snapped the school record with eight first-team selections as Tech was tied with Oklahoma State for the most in the conference. Tech also matched its school record with 11 total honorees.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
