FIRST PITCH…• Fresh off an 8-5 victory over Kansas State, No. 5 Texas Tech continues the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship on Thursday as the Red Raiders face West Virginia in a 4 p.m. first pitch at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The game will air live on FOX College Sports.
• Texas Tech is looking to win its first two games of the Big 12 Championship for just the second time in program history. The Red Raiders also claimed the opening two games of the 1998 Big 12 Championship en route to claiming their only tournament title.
• This will be the fourth game between Texas Tech and West Virginia over the past week as the Red Raiders claimed a series win against the Mountaineers last weekend in Lubbock. Tech and West Virginia have never met previously in the Big 12 Championship.
• The Red Raiders are coming off an 8-5 victory Wednesday against Kansas State. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for Texas Tech in Big 12 Championship opening-round games. Tech had not previously opened the tournament with a win since defeating Nebraska, 5-3, in 2005.
• Texas Tech was forced to rally from a four-run deficit en route to defeating K-State on Wednesday. It marked the largest deficit the Red Raiders have ever overcome in a win at the Big 12 Championship in school history.
• Texas Tech had six different players record a multi-hit game against Kansas State, its most since seven Red Raiders recorded at least two hits on Feb. 21 this year against Milwaukee. Tech finished with 17 hits in the win.
• Texas Tech is looking to become the first Big 12 regular-season champion to win the conference tournament since Texas A&M claimed a share of the regular-season title and then went on to win the Big 12 Championship in 2011.
TEXAS TECH IN THE BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIP
• Texas Tech is making its 16th appearance at the Big 12 Championship where the Red Raiders are 17-30 all-time in the event.
• Texas Tech's victory over K-State on Wednesday marked the first time the Red Raiders had won their opening-round game of the Big 12 Championship since defeating Nebraska, 5-3, in 2005. Tech is now 6-10 all-time in Big 12 Championship openers.
• Texas Tech's eight runs against K-State marked its most in a Big 12 Championship opening round game since 2001 when the Red Raiders routed Oklahoma, 17-5.
• Texas Tech has not won back-to-back games in the Big 12 Championship since defeating Texas and Texas A&M in 2000. The Red Raiders have won consecutive tournament games just four times in program history.
• The Red Raiders are looking to become the first Big 12 regular-season champion to win the conference tournament since Texas A&M in 2011.
• Texas Tech is the top seed in the tournament for just the second time in program history as the Red Raiders previously won the league's inaugural 1997 regular-season title. Tech finished 3-2 overall in the 1997 Big 12 Championship, falling to Oklahoma, 19-17, in the title game in what is still the highest-scoring game in tournament history.
• No. 1 seeds are 47-31 all-time in the Big 12 Championship but have appeared in the championship game just once since the 2010 season (2014 - Oklahoma State).
• Texas Tech is 5-10 all-time in the Big 12 Championship against its side of the bracket as the Red Raiders are 2-2 against Kansas State and 3-8 against Oklahoma. Tech and West Virginia have never met in the Big 12 Championship.
• Texas Tech is 15-24 all-time at the Big 12 Championship when the tournament is held at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. This is Tech's 13th trip to Bricktown for the Big 12 Championship.
