LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior outfielder Tyler Neslony was named to the Big 12 Championship all-tournament team on Sunday evening in an announcement by the conference office.
Neslony is the 14th Red Raider in program history to be recognized on the all-tournament team and the first since 2010 when Barrett Barnes and Chad Bettis were both honored. He joins Barnes as well as Brandon Toro (1997), Jason Landreth (1998) and Marco Cunningham (2000) as the only outfielders in school history to be named to the all-tournament team.
Neslony compiled a .385 average (5-for-13) with three doubles and two RBI during Tech's stay in Oklahoma City. His three doubles finished tied for second in the tournament among all conference players.
Neslony, a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, opened the championship by going 3-for-5 overall Wednesday afternoon against Kansas State. He connected on a pair of doubles in the win while also driving in a run before finishing 2-for-4 with a RBI the following day against West Virginia.
The senior now has 50 doubles over his career, moving Neslony into sole possession of seventh place in the Tech record book. He is also nearing the career top 10 in total bases as well as hits, at-bats and RBI.
The Red Raiders will return to Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park this weekend when Tech hosts the NCAA Lubbock Regional. The entire regional field will be announced at 11 a.m. CT Monday morning during the NCAA Selection Show on ESPNU.
