Texas Tech Set for NCAA Lubbock Regional

The Red Raiders opens the NCAA Lubbock Regional at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon when Texas Tech faces Fairfield inside Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

• Texas Tech begins the Road to Omaha on Friday afternoon when the Red Raiders open the NCAA Lubbock Regional with a 2 p.m. first pitch against Fairfield inside Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. The game will air nationally on ESPN3 as well as the Watch ESPN app.
• Texas Tech is the No. 5 national seed in the tournament, marking the first time the Red Raiders have earned a national seed since the NCAA went to its current format (Super Regionals) in 1999.
• The Red Raiders are looking to advance past the regional round for the second time in program history this weekend. Texas Tech previously won the 2014 NCAA Coral Gables Regional as well as the NCAA Lubbock Super Regional en route to its first ever College World Series appearance.
• Texas Tech is hosting the NCAA Regional round for the fourth time in school history and the first time since 1999. The Red Raiders also hosted the opening round of the tournament during the 1996 and 1997 seasons.
• The Red Raiders will be looking to advance past the regional round at home for the first time in school history. Texas Tech is 4-6 all-time when hosting an NCAA Regional at home.
• Texas Tech will meet Fairfield for the first time in program history Friday afternoon in the regional opener. The Stags are in the tournament after winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tournament title.
• Texas Tech has not faced any of the three teams in this weekend's field previously in the NCAA Championship.
• The Red Raiders will either face No. 2 seed Dallas Baptist or No. 3 seed New Mexico on Saturday. Texas Tech is 15-8 all-time against Dallas Baptist and 67-45-1 all-time against New Mexico, including a 42-20 mark in games played in Lubbock.
• Texas Tech has advanced to the regional finals five times previously in school history (1995, 1999, 2001, 2004, 2014).
TEXAS TECH IN THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
• Texas Tech is making its 11th all-time appearance in the NCAA Championship as the Red Raiders are 20-21 all-time in the event.
• The Red Raiders previously advanced to the NCAA Championship over eight-straight seasons from 1995-2002 and then again in 2004 and 2014.
• Texas Tech is hosting an NCAA Regional for the fourth time in school history as the Red Raiders previously opened the tournament at home in 1996, 1997 and 1999. Tech is 4-6 all-time in NCAA Regional games at home.
• Texas Tech is 6-6 all-time in NCAA Championship games played at home as the Red Raiders previously hosted the 2014 NCAA Lubbock Super Regional, sweeping College of Charleston with a pair of 1-0 victories.
• The Red Raiders advanced to the College World Series in Omaha for the first time in program history during its last appearance in the NCAA Championship. Texas Tech toppled both Columbia and No. 3 Miami in the NCAA Coral Gables Regional before downing College of Charleston in the NCAA Lubbock Super Regional.
• Texas Tech is 3-4 all-time as the No. 1 seed in the regional round. The Red Raiders were also the No. 1 seed at the 1995 NCAA Midwest Regional in Wichita, Kansas (3-2) and at the 1997 NCAA Lubbock Regional (0-2).
• Fairfield will be the first opponent Texas Tech has ever faced from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
• Texas Tech is 0-1 all-time in the NCAA Championship against current members of the Missouri Valley Conference as the Red Raiders fell to Missouri State, 4-2, during the 1997 NCAA Lubbock Regional.
• Texas Tech is 1-1 all-time in the NCAA Championship versus current members of the Mountain West Conference as the Red Raiders split a pair of games against Fresno State during the 1996 NCAA Lubbock Regional.
• Texas Tech has not previously faced Fairfield, Dallas Baptist or New Mexico in the NCAA Championship.
• Texas Tech has advanced to the regional finals five times in its history (1995, 1995, 2001, 2004, 2014).
• Tim Tadlock is only the second head coach in school history to lead the Red Raiders to the NCAA Championship. Larry Hays previously made nine NCAA tournament appearances during his tenure from 1987-2008.
